The Brain Bakery
Measuring Mindfulness {Meditational}
Welcome to the Brain Bakery! Let’s bake some Brain Bread.
The greatest minds get their best thoughts to rise, folding them and kneading them ahead of time. Utilizing their brain like a fully stocked kitchen, they keep it respectfully clean with shine.
First, let’s prepare some ingredients.
Collect a few of your favourite Sensations!
Here are some classics for you, if you’re not sure which Cerebral Cabinet to open;
- when your shoulders relax under the hot water from the shower down your back
- the sunlight resting on your closed eyelids like soft massaging dances of light
- when someone plays with your hair absentmindedly
- the cool tiled floor under your bare feet outside in summertime
- the way a hot cup of tea blooms warmth throughout your chest
- cozying up in bed at night in your favourite fresh pajamas
- the silencing sound of fresh snowfall

Next, a favourite Memory for no particular reason like;
- sitting quietly beside someone without having to say any words
- laughing unexpectedly down an aisle of the grocery store
- when the temperature outside was just right and you took the long way home
- the dust dancing in the afternoon light while you were preparing for your friend to arrive
- catching someone’s eye across the room and both trying not to laugh
- accidentally staying up late because the conversation was so good
- someone saving you a seat without asking
- dancing alone in your room
- someone remembering the small detail you mentioned long ago

Pour a full cup of concentrated Respect;
- when someone offered you unexpected sincerity
- a work of art that moved you
- intentional acts of kindness
- a friend picking you up from the airport
- showing up for yourself to follow through
- someone showing up for you when they did not have to
- telling the truth when it is challenging to
- keeping a secret
- when you were truly heard without judgement
- forgiveness
- believing in someone before they do
- taking your time in earnest

Next, a tablespoon of Awe;
- acknowledging how old that one tree is
- a child explaining something with complete confidence in their imagination
- a poem encapsulating a feeling you couldn’t place before
- witnessing a master at their craft
- the stars in the sky appearing so tiny but reminding you of your literal tiny size in comparison
- that it all worked out that one time
_________________ (space to measure a spoon of awe)
And, a teaspoon of Grief;
- aching gratitude in the space of loss
- the last time you did something without knowing it was your last time
- missing someone still alive but no longer in your life
- outgrowing a version of yourself you loved
- a place you can’t return to
- accepting what you can not change but are aware of anyways
_________________ (space to gently hold the grief)
Then, A pinch of Presence (well, more to taste ;)
- the rhythm of your breath before you just noticed it
- the sounds and vibrations in the room with you right now
- the color hues of three things you can see from where you’re sitting
- the weight of your body in your seat
- the flicker of a side thought you just ignored
- the temperature of the air just as it enters your nostrils
- the toenail on your littlest toe
- your shoulders blades distance to your neck and spine
- where the sun is angled in relation to you right now in the sky
_________________ (space to render the now; your present)
You’re more than welcome to sprinkle any Fermented Bitters you might have in your gut~ any negativity you’ve accumulated in life that your mind has stowed to alchemize;
- a time you were casually treated unfairly
- a moment involving reactive anger
- when you made a big mistake but it turned out fine anyways
- an injustice only you witnessed
- any feedback you mistook as sincere (that was not)

Now you knead it all together,
Allowing your brain to fold,
Your mind is here, holding this soft dough~
Go ahead and lay yourself down perpendicularly.
What do you especially love to think about when there isn’t anything else to think about particularly?
What do you especially love about being yourself when there isn’t someone else judging similarly?
Fold the memories of laughter over the beauty in your grief,
Let the dough get sticky while stretching your self-belief,
Life is temporary and toward the end… seems brief,
Press in the feelings, folding over the sensations, breathe,
(Cover yourself up with a blanket,)
Generate the friction of warmth in your chest,
Kneading the sensations with your breath,
The dough will begin to rise,
Oh but never on some scheduled time~
Just put it in the oven when you get the sign.

The magic happens when you allow the transformation without interference,
Your mindfulness like a method to generate the heart brain coherence~
Even though these measurements are not something you can see in appearance.
Your attention is observing your own awareness, allowing what you can’t control; like what’s in your heart, that unexplainably powers your whole.
The love in your heart bakes your brain dough;
Into warm bread you can butter, and break in the know.
That knowingness risen~ in your very own kitchen,
When shared; tastes like your own mistakes forgiven,
Now; clarity to your inner voice,
like 'what next?’
You just listen.
